Myrtle Beach’s Very Own Coastal Kid

Matthew Storm Hellandbrand, American Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Coastal Kid (also known as Kid Dirty) issued early online tracks like “Southern Belle” and “Wanted Thingz” that hinted early on at the versatile style he would come to develop, one that blended elements of pop/rap and trap, influenced by Drake, 21 Savage, and Eminem as well as the South Florida scene he was close to. Living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina which had no hip/hop scene at all, the Virginia-born rapper gradually had to learn the fundamentals of the music business and how to work a record from just the beat all on his own, just a short period before graduating from high school, Matthew established Storm Media, a media company and his label. His prolific output switched swaggering modern hip-hop anthems and simple trap verses, with melodic hooks the common element in both modes. He gradually gained a significant following through word of mouth and exposure from alternative weeklies and major rap publications. The release of his first mix tape “On The Coast<3” would rack up over 4.4 MILLION STREAMS moving over just over 3,000 units in just the first week alone. 2019 is set to be a big year for the kid with a studio album.
